HOME AUCTIONS Are Picking Up—But Homes Are Selling at Big Discounts! This is totally my perspective from 25 years as a Tucson Realtor. And remember most of these auction sites will allow you to still use a realtor – so don’t go into any real estate transaction without knowing all your facts and have someone you trust involved in your transaction. A KEY NOTE: Real Industry estimates that throughout the US, more then 91% of all real estate transactions involve a realtor on at least one or both sides.
Foreclosure auction sites like Xome, Hubzu, ServiceLink Auction, and RealtyTrac are getting more attention as more properties head to auction. Learning how they work and why they work is what is important for any seller or buyer considering an auction home sale.
NatioForeclosure Auctions Are Picking Up—But Homes Are Selling at Big Discounts! Sellers have to understand what the real net is to them and know what are the hidden fees. Its no different then when other companies moved into the market years ago like OpenDoor or OfferPad. They became players in the housing market but they were disrupters for only a period of time. Sellers caught on ….they were really not saying money by not using a realtor – just because they advertised no commissions did not mean NO FEES. And any online calculator was able to show sellers that to sell to those online brokerages cost as much as 8-12% depending on the terms – yet they used the terms “no commissions”. BUT we cant forget some people wanted quick sales and no hassle and those brokerages served a purpose for those specific sellers. Anytime there is change in a market there will be out of the box fast thinkers.

Nationwide, foreclosure auction activity rose 15%-23% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period last year, reaching its busiest pace in more than six years. Much of that increase involves homes purchased with FHA loans taken out in 2022 or later.
Arizona’s foreclosure activity is now above pre-pandemic levels, along with Texas, Minnesota, Louisiana, and Colorado.
For buyers, these auctions may offer lower prices. Winning bidders are paying an average of about two-thirds of a home’s estimated market value.
For sellers, that’s an important tradeoff: homes are selling at auction, but often for considerably less than their estimated value. More auction activity doesn’t necessarily mean a better sale price.nwide, foreclosure auction activity rose 23% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period last year, reaching its busiest pace in more than six years.
